There is no script for sidewalk counseling. The sidewalk counselor must be “all thing to all people,” to borrow an idea from Saint Paul. He or she must be able to assess the surroundings, assess the individuals encountered, and adapt accordingly. Sidewalk counseling is a mission, a calling, and a gentle art.
