PRO-LIFE BASICS: Forty-two years after the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton rulings decriminalized abortion, where are we?

Some have argued that after more than two generations of decriminalized abortion on demand, it is difficult to see how we can ever end the slaughter.

But those who harbor such thoughts have forgotten the power of God and the dedication to truth that drives genuinely pro-life people forward toward the ultimate victory. In fact, because it has been 42 years since that disastrous pair of Supreme Court decisions, we should be even more zealous about taking back the culture. We must press on like never before in our quest to open the eyes of the blind, the hearts of the self-absorbed, and the minds of those suffering from a deadened conscience.

Such ailments must be treated with the medicine of truth mixed with charity, as we carry the message to the unconvinced, the ignorant, and the belligerent.

How we do that is really rather simple. The game plan revolves around teaching and acting on the simple truth that abortion is not a political issue and it is not a debatable subject; it is what it is.

The act of abortion is an act of murder.

The act of abortion results in the death of an innocent person. The act of abortion is always and in every case wrong for this reason: An individual human being winds up dead because he is not acknowledged as a member of the human family.

These simple facts are all provable on scientific grounds. They are not a matter of opinion. They are logical and irrefutable.

But making a clear case in defense of these facts requires consistency in what we say, do, and propagate. We cannot change today’s status quo if we—in any way—suggest that abortion under any circumstance is acceptable. Our message must be free of approval for any abortion under any circumstance. Why? Because murder is never okay—period.

So, here is how we take back the culture.

First, discuss these facts with anyone and everyone with whom you communicate. Respect for the innocent person knows no boundaries.

Write about these facts in letters and comments to newspapers, websites, chat rooms, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. Do it whenever you see an error in the way others communicate about abortion and the preborn child.

After 42 years, far too many prefer to ignore the simple truth and go about their lives believing that abortion is either none of their business or a very good idea. My guess is most of them never give the baby a second thought.

You and I are the only voices these babies have. If we do not teach and preach the simple truth, nothing will change. So, do something to change the current situation. Teach the truth.
