We are just a little over a week away from Christmas—one of the most joyous days of the year. As we finish preparations and ponder Christ’s immense love, the most pro-abortion president in the history of the US—and one who claims to be Catholic—chooses this very holy time to attack women and babies.
People around the country are placing statues of Baby Jesus in nativity scenes and preparing for our Lord’s birth, but Biden’s government cannot be bothered with a love for babies. It must tarnish this holy time of year with death, as it callously lifts restrictions on abortion pills. Now a woman can more easily kill her baby; she can use telemedicine to get a prescription for abortion pills and have these pills mailed directly to her house.
In case you aren’t aware, abortion pills are a two-pill regimen used to kill a baby who is at 10 weeks gestation or younger. In the past, the woman would take the first (mifepristone, which blocks progesterone and starves the baby to death) at the doctor’s office and the second (misoprostol, which induces labor and then expels the dead baby from the womb) at home.
With this permanent lift on restrictions, she can do both at home after only a telemedicine appointment.
Abortion proponents are giddy with excitement. Indeed, the New York Times reports that “the F.D.A.’s action means that medication abortion, an increasingly common method authorized in the United States for pregnancies up to 10 weeks’ gestation, will become more available to women who find it difficult to travel to an abortion provider or prefer to terminate a pregnancy in the privacy of their homes. It allows patients to have a telemedicine appointment with a provider who can prescribe abortion pills and send them to the patient by mail.”
So now women can kill a baby in the “privacy” of their own home. Alone. Alone to suffer the consequences, the mental anguish, and any potential physical complications that arise.
And make no mistake, complications do happen. While deadly for the baby, the abortion pill regimen is also extremely harmful to the woman. LifeNews reported on a recent study of complications, stating: “Of the 3,197 complication reports that they examined, the researchers found 20 deaths, 529 life-threatening complications, 1,957 severe, 151 moderate and three mild complications. An additional 537 had insufficient information to determine the severity of the woman’s complications.”
Yet that’s only what has been reported. Keep in mind that many women who go to the ER with complications are told to say they are having a miscarriage.
When a government allows a doctor to prescribe to a woman alone in her home a dangerous pill that has potential complications that include “excessive bleeding, severe abdominal pain, infection and hemorrhage,” it is obvious that neither cares about her health. So when I mentioned that loosening these restrictions was an attack on women, it was not hyperbole. If ibuprofen had this kind of effect, people would be clamoring for some kind of resolution or government control. But because abortion pills help women achieve the desired effect of killing a baby, our government does everything it can to ensure that she has this “right.”
It seems to me that the Biden administration and the FDA are not looking out for women. We know they’re certainly not looking out for babies. What or who are they looking out for? The almighty dollar? Organizations like Planned Parenthood? Both?
So, during this sacred time when we contemplate the coming of our Lord and worship Him as a baby, the Biden administration and the FDA worship death. While we sing “Silent Night,” they sing the praises of a pill that kills babies. And while we work day and night to protect moms and babies, they work day and night to find more ways to kill babies.
Christmas is a time to reflect on the goodness of the Lord, on the fact that He came here to save us, and on how we can attempt to make ourselves worthy of His gift. As we ponder these things, let us gaze upon the face of Baby Jesus and then upon the face of the crucified Jesus and promise Him that we will never stop working to protect the gift of life He has given us.
