When a University of Virginia student wrote in The Cavalier Daily that “sex education in America is failing its students, and conservatives are too blinded by their own political agenda to take notice,” I certainly took notice.
That single sentence points to the deep-seated disdain for the family and the rights of parents that exists among millennials in our nation today. The words the student wrote suggest that schools, not homes, are the place to instill values in children. And that, my friends, is a grave error.
American Life League has long opposed any type of sex education outside the home because we realize that parents are, have always been, and always will be the primary educators of their children—especially in matters of faith and morals.
But wait, you say, there are so many broken families in our country today and so many working mothers that home is the wrong place for a kid to learn about the birds and the bees.
Wrong again.
Step outside politics for a moment and look at the facts. The number-one sex education kingpin is Planned Parenthood. That organization wriggles and waggles its way into schools from coast to coast, marketing its wares and selling abortion. Sex is in, it says, and whatever makes you feel good is okay!
Our tax dollars pay for this indoctrination. This is so, even though Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League, has explained that young people really do not need Planned Parenthood-style sex ed at all. As he wisely points out:
Young people do not “need” to have sex. Nobody ever died from not having sex. Food is a need. Oxygen is a need. Hydration is a need. Sex is not a need.
American Life League will never endorse comprehensive sex education because it is not healthy for children, it denies parental rights, and it destroys self-respect. Brainwashing our children is not the answer; building families and equipping parents is.
Instead of demanding state-controlled smut masquerading as sex education, let’s demand affirmation of two-parent families where Mom and Dad are not denied their God-given parental rights.
