In a Face the Truth campaign, pro-lifers stretch out along a busy stretch of roadway, displaying giant posters. The first posters show babies in the womb at various stages of development. The next posters show babies who have been killed by abortion. The final posters point out the results of abortion.
Yes, as we prepared to do this, some queried: How can you show those grisly pictures? They are disgusting! They are appalling! They are offensive!
But our responses to all such protests were the same: “Please think about the babies for a moment. They have only people like you and me to defend them, and so few even realize that a baby dies during an abortion. Most people think of it as choice or reproductive freedom or a right, but not as murder. Abortion is the murdering of an innocent human person.”
We also had to deal with the question: “Is this project a prudent use of the graphic images?”
We believe that it is. At least one half mile before a driver even gets to the signs, he has been warned that they are coming. And he is always warned in such a way that he can take an alternate route rather than drive by those signs. That is what we really like about this Face the Truth campaign: it is not “in your face,” and it is not lacking in prudence.
We, at American Life League, believe in telling it like it is. I asked several staff members to participate, along with me, in the recent Face the Truth campaign in Maryland. Recounted above and below are what they said after experiencing this amazing program of public testimony to the truth about abortion.
During my own hours with the tour, the most awesome example of God’s power came when a young mother of three drove by the signs, and then turned into the parking lot behind us. She asked the young man who was leading the tour that afternoon, “Will you please come over to my car and explain what abortion is to my children? I want them to know what those pictures represent.”
We praise God for the persistence of Joe Scheidler and the Pro-Life Action League, who have made Face the Truth a community-based event that has now become national in scope. There is not one community in the United States where Face the Truth could not be done. We urge you to get a program going in your area now. Do it at any busy intersection (where an option is present for those who wish to turn and take a different route) and see what a difference it makes.
It has indeed been 30 years since Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton were imposed on the land. We all know the evil that has oozed across our nation during that time, but let’s not dwell on it. After all, we are called by God to give active witness to His Truth in the here and now. No, we do not want to see another 30 years of child killing. That is why we urge you to get involved by being a pro-life missionary, as Camille Murphy put it.
Face the Truth is but one example of how you can make a difference, end the slaughter, and restore the nation to the sanity that can only be found at the foot of the Cross. What are you waiting for?
Mother Teresa always said you do not need to leave the country to do missionary work. While participating in the Face the Truth tour, I was standing in the midst of 80 or so missionaries for the preborn babies. The images shown in Face the Truth expose what the media will not: that abortion kills a human person.
