Speaking to a group of women, Edith Stein, later known as St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, once said, “The nation . . . doesn’t simply need what we [women] have. It needs what we are.”
But what we are as women has not only become blurred, it has become twisted and even obliterated, as the attacks on women have become more and more deliberate every day. Recent examples illustrate this point, and they should disgust not only women but all those who care about women.
In a recent video call hosted by “White Dudes for Harris,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg talked about freedom and why we should vote for Kamala Harris this November. His main point was to address her stance on abortion and birth control. At one point, he said, “Men are also more free in a country where we have a president who stands up for things like access to abortion.”
What a slap in the face to women. There is no more blatant way to excuse a man using a woman for his sexual pleasure than to tell him he is free to have sex with her, create a child with her, and then walk away because she can kill that child. All in the name of freedom.
This disgusting comment from someone who is pro-abortion should not surprise us, but the fact that he was shameless enough to say it aloud and in front of thousands of people takes it to a whole new level of disdain for both women and babies.
It is clear that Buttigieg puts a man’s pleasure and desires before anything else. Never mind the woman or the child growing inside her. He can give her a few hundred dollars and walk away, putting them both out of sight and out of mind. This is the epitome of abuse, and it is reprehensible.
Regardless of whether you are a man or a woman, remarks like this should appall you. And they should make you think long and hard about the direction our country would take should those who believe these lies take control in November.
But Buttigieg is not the only one attacking women or womanhood today. We see it happening in the world of sports as well, where men who identify as women have been allowed to compete at the high school, college, and even professional levels.
These woke policies essentially tell the world “women be damned.” According to this philosophy, if men want to beat women in the world of sports, they should be allowed to because there is nothing inherently unique about women, and anyone who says he is a woman should be allowed to compete as one.
But men and women are biologically different. This is not an opinion; it is a fact. And it’s a fact that some politicians refuse to accept, let alone define.
So we have to ask ourselves, How did we get here? How did we, as a society, sink so low that many now have such little regard for women, for mothers, and for the babies growing inside of them?
We got here because not enough people have stood up for the value of women and motherhood. Not enough people want to fight the nonsense that comes out of people’s mouths and out of new policies that dismiss the beautiful differences that exist between the two sexes.
This is what happens when we give too much credence to a “live and let live” mentality. This is what happens when we stay silent because we fear being canceled for beliefs that uphold the dignity of all people. This is what happens when too many people stand around and do nothing.
Make no mistake, your voice and your vote matter.
If you vote for people who are not pro-life—and that means upholding the dignity of all people and who know the difference between a man and a woman—then you are part of the problem.
If you don’t teach your children the sanctity of life and respect for women and motherhood, then you are part of the problem.
If you look over news stories like these and fail to say or do anything, then you are part of the problem.
A woke society where people can do whatever they want to do regardless of whom it hurts will be our nation’s downfall. Those in control think that they are making these policies in the name of equity, yet all they really do is abuse women, show them that their lives have little value, and teach that, to be equal, they have to be more like men.
We must remember that women and men can be treated equally and fairly even though they are not actually the same. It’s time we speak up and communicate this truth.
Edith Stein was right. The world needs what women are. But even more so, the world needs people to speak the truth about what women are and the value that they have.
